In the early 1970's, prominent Harrisburg attorney James Hagar and family resided at the Conewago Manor Farm, as the Inn was known at that time. Master Hagar converted the stone barn to stables for horses and set up riding rings in the meadows. The Farm was a common venue for the Beaufort Hunt Club, and many fox hunts originated here at the Manor and ventured throughout the creek valley. After a long morning of hunting fox on horseback, the gentlemen would return to the dining room for a hearty after-the-hunt breakfast, eagerly devouring a hot meal and gulping scalding coffee.
Master Hagar visited us during our restoration of the home and explained that during his residence, the décor of the Manor was very colonial. He reminisced with us and shared his many fond memories of living here and thanked us for returning the property to its glorious past. This guest room shares a patio with the Mount Vernon Retreat.
