Gentleman Smith's Quarters
In 1739 Samuel Smith, a local miller and Indian trader,
received a grant of land from the William Penn family, the founders of the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. To this day, 20 acres remain of the original 305
acre tract located along the Conewago Creek. The original deed, written on sheepskin
with pen and ink, is preserved and on display in our dining room.
The Smith family settled into the long time project of clearing
the land and building the estate that they named the Conewago Manor Farm. We hope
that you are as intrigued by the Manor and the lush grounds as were its
original owners.
